The Prawn Cocktail Years

Simon Hopkinson and Lindsey Bareham

The authors of Roast Chicken and Other Stories take a culinary trip down memory lane . . .

Simon Hopkinson and Lindsey Bareham’s first collaboration has become a bestselling classic since being voted the most useful cookbook ever by a panel of chefs and food writers. In their second book, The Prawn Cocktail Years, they turn their attention to the often overlooked dishes of our past. Dishes that were once new and exciting like moussaka and chicken kiev or former firm favourite surpassed by new ideas such as spaghetti bolognese and treacle tart. Here are recipes for all these wonderful and utterly delicious dishes that are now staging a comeback.

Simon Hopkinson was head chef at Bibendum for nearly ten years. He has written columns in the Independent, The Times and Sainsbury’s Magazine and is the author of four books including the multi-award winning Roast Chicken and Other Stories.

Lindsey Bareham is best known for her column in the Evening Standard which she wrote for eight years. Currently she writes the weekly Cheat’s Dinner Party column in the Sunday Telegraph Stella magazine and contributes a monthly recipe column to SAGA magazine. As well as Roast Chicken and Other Stories, she has written ten other cookery books.
